Socks and coal ranges

Before we moved to our current place of residence we talked of what we would ideally like in a house. Not that we had much choice in that as the house came with the job and the job definitely took priority over the house. Having said that it was my partners dream to live in a house with an old range in the kitchen that she could light and learn to cook on and that would give that warm country kitchen feel to her craft work.Imagine our delight when at the interview we opened the door to the old…See More

I love your poems and your hunting story was wonderful too (except for when you actually shot the deer; I'm a city girl myself.) She Was a Journalist and Skinny Dip both capture an experience and mood so well, truly evocative, making what could…

puppet fun

One of the great things about acknowledging our creativity is that we don't know how it will present or express itself thereafter. Last weekend we suddenly decided to make some puppets. Not for any particular reason, just that puppets are fun! So thats what we did all Sunday. It was good to try something different. I usually consider my poetry to be my creative outlet but making puppets, glueing and sewing and bringing something to life without words was a very satisfying diversion form my…See More

Good Friday

Its Good Friday and I apologise for the lack of activity here lately. I went to my fathers 70th birthday last weekend and have been trying to work out the intricacies of ning since. What I have tried to do was set up a page where I could showcase my poems, but I am having trouble getting the page to accept the format of poetry. It just shows up as a continuous stream of prose no-matter how I key it in/copy/import etc.Anyway I shall include some poems here in this blog because it seems to accept…See More

What's this all about?

Welcome to my ning site. It is primarily a blog for me to share what is happening with the poetry in my life, but also an opportunity for you to share that which is poetry to you.
While I will post some poetry I will mainly be sharing the poetry of normal life. The ebbs and flows and the differing colors of the experience we call life. It is about how we view things that determines the poetry of our days. A year or so ago I decided to start every day by saying "It's a beautiful world full of wonderful people!" and to take every experience the day had to offer without judging it as either good or bad, merely accepting it as life and observing the outcomes.

Maybe surprisingly I have had an amazing year since. The story will be told in time but for now join me where I am today...here, in today. Moment by moment walking the poetic meter of living.
This moment is Autumn and below is a poem that flowed from taking my partner down to the sheep yards to play in the deep piles of freshly fallen leaves that the wind had gathered. We played like children and by morning it had rained and that moment of dry crisp leaves had turned to a soggy blanket. It is important to live now.
LEAVES OF FALL: Copyright Greg Wilson
>Share with me your secret
Leaves of Fall
You who arm in arm with death
Dance with such exuberance
Twirled by the ethereal romance of a season past
Your skirts rustling with debutante glee
This your final movement, expressed with joy unfettered
Teach me to die thus
That springs tenderness and color not be forgotten
Though its saps no longer flow
May the energy that passes through me all summer
Impell me outward into my final season
O Leaves of Fall teach me
To revel in the dry colors of age
That I too may fly on the first
Wings of frost
To lie content where children play.
